from today's MediaBistro:
"The Telegraph just published the results of a poll conducted by Play.com on the "Top 50 Books of All Time." The bulk of the list is not surprising, although Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code shows up at #5."
"The Telegraph goes on to report that "The research also found that the average Briton buys at least one new book a month," whereas the average American buy less than 10 books a year according to a report by Zogby International (that is if I interpret their data correctly)."

Re: The Telegraph's Top 50 Books of All Time
Wed, June 18, 2008 - 9:23 PMI saw a book on sale yesterday at the store and it was called something like 50 must read books. They seemed all older and I'm sure their must be some good ones. But I put it back because even though my first thought was "Oh. This looks interesting." My second thought was "Shiiii-hit!!! My list is WAY better than this!" lol -

Re: The Telegraph's Top 50 Books of All Time
Sat, June 21, 2008 - 7:41 AMHow the fuck is Harry Potter and The Da Vinci Code better then Catch 22 or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? Lord of the Flies was about where it should have been. Why in fuck's name is slaughter house five not in this. Any one who thinks It is Steven King's beast book clearly has not read 90% of his books. I hate these things. I wish mags and papers would stop doing them. -

Re: The Telegraph's Top 50 Books of All Time
Mon, June 23, 2008 - 6:01 AMYeah, I was really surprised to see Harry Potter. I mean, they are good books, don't get me wrong. Anything that gets a whole nations off it's ass and reading again is fine by me, but the top 50 books of ALL TIME? I dunno..... -

Re: The Telegraph's Top 50 Books of All Time
Mon, June 23, 2008 - 7:54 PMI think it would be interesting to see what we as a group could come up with as a top 50 or 100 best books of all time. I would like to suggest The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama. It's as meaningful to me as the Bible supposedly is to most Christians. -

Re: The Telegraph's Top 50 Books of All Time
Tue, June 24, 2008 - 6:25 AMI don't think we could just stick with 50. I mean diversity being what it is, each one of us would come up with a different list of 50 different books. For example...joe scmoo might list 50 fiction, while harry might list 50 sci-fi........while tom over there would list 50 of Wicca's teaching books....

Re: The Telegraph's Top 50 Books of All Time
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 11:34 AMThis article says "voted." That's an awfully conspicuous word. It essentially turns this list into a "reader's favorites" type list. Obviously, to truly judge the greatest books of all time, other considerations would have to be added. I also can't really accept that Harry Potter, the Da Vinci Code, It, Memoir's of a Geisha, and several others are on this list. Popular does not necessarily equal well written. -

Re: The Telegraph's Top 50 Books of All Time
Mon, October 6, 2008 - 2:54 PMThere are some pretty good books on that list and there are more than a few...woefully ...crappy books, so I guess, I'd give "The Telegraph" a pass.
I also find it hard to believe that Harry Potter, The Da Vinci code made it on anything but a best seller list, and Memoir's of a Geisha was entertaining ...however....a best book of all times? doesn't really warrant consideration. Would be better on The Time-Wasters Top 50 Books of the day.

Re: The Telegraph's Top 50 Books of All Time
Mon, October 13, 2008 - 11:35 AMWell, I am proud to say, I read almost all of them on the list.
I was surprised though, to see the Lovely Bones on it, because in my opinion that is the worst book ever.
But then again one flub out of fifthy .., les gouts et les couleurs ne se disputent pas... -

Mon, October 13, 2008 - 11:39 AMMarvin, I love the Witching Hour, the entire series is great, love it.
Love how they come together in the end with The Vampire series.
Altough alot of people say that Taltos is their favourite one in the series.
