I just moved and am setting up a mini library in my bedroom.
I am off today to score another bookcase, that makes three!!!
It is fun to sort my books, organize them...
sci fi series
art books
fashion books
novels
non-fiction
resource materials
vampires
unread
spiritual/self-help
fun/kids/pop up books
How does your library grow?

Re: New book case set up
Tue, September 30, 2008 - 9:51 PMI just scored an authentic old wooden library pushcart! I am going to use it as a bookcase (surprise surprise!)
I'm not as organized but you've inspired me to make at least divide some by category. -

Re: New book case set up
Wed, October 1, 2008 - 8:34 AMI've the five large case 7 feet by 3 1-2, four in the living room, one in the hall, and a couple of other smaller ones in the bedroom. There is never enough space as I've back stacked in almost every available spot. I'd really love to have a larger place that could accommodate a few more book cases or ideally have a room set aside for just the books, a chair and lamp. ; ) -

Re: New book case set up
Thu, October 2, 2008 - 9:20 AMIn an unexpected pile-up last night the library cart collided with my neighbor's dog and a small child on a scooter, resulting in THICK RICH TOMATO JUICE SPEWED ALL OVER MY SEX & POLITICS SECTION.
I'll have to throw a few clams on top of it and call it "Love Story."

Re: New book case set up
Thu, October 2, 2008 - 8:11 PMI have one wall of built in bookshelves in my living room. A reference book case in my bedroom since that is where I do my writing. And school books piled in the spare room with the extra computor.
I usually arrange my books by author,I have lots of Ann Rice, Dean Knooz, Stephen King, Peter Strab, and Clive Barker. And a few other authors with a couple of books. After that I arrange them by size however they fit well in the case.
Never enough room and always looking to make room. I am getting rid of all my Mary Higgins mysterys, either donate to the library, or give them away to anyone who wants them or I will put them up for sale on Half.com.
I have a multitude of books I have not read yet and as I read them I will decide if they are keepers(ones I may read again) or ones I will never read again, library or half.com or give away. I cannot ever bare to throw out a book. -

Re: New book case set up
Fri, October 3, 2008 - 2:22 PMShould have been Mary Higgins Clark. I have to reel myself in with the book buying. I usually avoid the bookstores. It can be a real problem. Thats why I have so many books I haven't even read yet. And UMMMM,I keep buying more. -

Re: New book case set up
Sat, October 4, 2008 - 9:45 AMI've a friend at work who confessed last night that she has every available wall in her house covered with book cases. She is Christian, and only reads the accompanying material (God's instructions it seems), so it astounded me though when she went on to tell me that all her kitchen cabinets and dresser drawers are filled with books as well. She furthermore said she has Tupperware storage tubs stacked up throughout the house. Gadz!
I delicately asked why kept so much material on religion? Didn't she find it a rather materialistic thing to do? Her reply was that she never knew when God would tell her to read a certain book and she wanted to have it ready just in case. "Christian material hits the shelves in bookstores, then tends to disappear," she told me.
"Uh huh, mmm,,,, it must be nice to have all that room." I replied. Well? What could I say?
And I only 'thought' I was obsessed as a book collector. -

Re: New book case set up
Mon, January 5, 2009 - 11:43 PMAhhhh.. I remember when I used to organize my books by subject. Had to stop doing it - now I organize them by size ! Allows me to place them on their side and stack them all the way to the top of the shelf, and for novels - two deep.
Turns about half of an entire books shelf into a single shelf. -

Re: New book case set up
Wed, January 7, 2009 - 6:45 AMyea, I arrange by author and size. I have books crammed every where. I just donated a bunch to the library, so I could have room for somemore,LOL.
Began reading my favorite series again for the 3rd time. Mary Stewerts Merlin novels. There are 4. I read the first 3 twice already and awhile ago I bought the last one but did not want to read it untill I reread the others. Amazing how the books seem new to me even after reading them twice before. Right now I am reading "The Crystal Cave" then there is the "Hollow Hills' and the "Last Ebchantment and the forth which I have nver read is "The Wicked Day"
What pleasure! -

Re: New book case set up
Wed, January 7, 2009 - 4:37 PMMY great pleasure , BOOKS!!!!! I used to not be able to part with any one ,..whether read or not. Now I'm getting old and It's way too crowded and I'd like to share, and not break a hip, so I pass on books to people who need them or to libraries(600 to 1200 per year) , scary isn't it. And yet I still go to book sales. Whats really fun about getting old is that they are starting to seem new to me again WOO HOO!! -

Saving the best for last.
Wed, January 7, 2009 - 11:32 PMIn that vein, I have a few shelves where I stash the books I want to have the nurses read to me when my eyes go. I figure it'll be fun as a little old lady to ask to be read to very sweetly and earnestly and then hand over something very different than expected. -

Re: Saving the best for last.
Fri, January 9, 2009 - 9:45 AMHow about some of those randy books that Anne Rice started out with like "Sleeping Beauty" (I think that's it)? -

Fri, January 9, 2009 - 11:01 AMRandy is not the word. I'm not a prude but I did not like them. In fact I only read part of one and then sent them to my daughter who collect erotica.
